Here’s a look at five spectacular gay weddings that made the headlines for romance, glitz and glamour in true Hollywood style.

1. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

Beloved talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres married her long-time love, Australia’s Portia de Rossi, in 2008. In fairytale princess style, Portia wore a stunning white tulle dress, matched by Ellen’s classic white suit. In a private ceremony at their Los Angeles home, the couple drenched guests in traditional romance, with pink and white roses, elegant white drapes, divine hanging lanterns and ambient candlelight.

2. Elton John and David Furnish

In true celebrity style, famous crooner Elton John gave his fans sneaky peeks of his wedding to David Furnish via social media. The star-studded guest list included David and Victoria Beckham, Ed Sheeran and David Walliams.

At the couple’s Windsor estate, guests were treated to lavish displays of red roses, Laurent-Perrier champagne and a delectable menu consisting of wild mushroom soup with truffle cream, beef short rib, caramelised onion pie and warm chocolate pudding. Very English!

3. Lance Bass and Michael Turchin

The wedding of NSYNC singer Lance Bass and artist Michael Turchin took place in the acclaimed Park Plaza Hotel in LA. Topping the headlines in rock star style, they were the first same-sex couple to be married on an American TV network, with puppies for ring bearers and super models for flower girls. The elegant reception was decorated in royal colours and guests dined on a lavish buffet dinner.

4. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka

How would you like a castle in Italy, a fireworks show during your first dance, Elton John as your entertainment and a guest list full of famous people? How I Met Your Mother actor Neil Patrick Harris had just that when he wed chef David Burtka in 2014.

5. Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent

They got engaged in Peru and then became the first same-sex couple to marry in the iconic New York Public Library. Designer, author and TV host Nate Berkus and designer and TV personality Jeremiah Brent exchanged gold gay men’s wedding rings among guests including Oprah Winfrey and Busy Philipps.

The colour palette combined black, white, cream and gold, guests dined on white gem-cut dinnerware sets from Nate’s own collection, and singer Estelle performed at the after-party.

Has this sent your mind into a spin with wedding ideas? You don’t need a celebrity guest list to create the ceremony of your dreams – just a dash of creativity, a splash of flamboyance and an abundance of love!
