Step Away from the Traditional, with a MAX Diamonds Bespoke Piece of Jewellery
If you would like to step away from the traditional diamond jewellery there is a huge array of coloured gemstones you can consider for your unique piece. Emeralds, Sapphires and Rubies are the three most popular coloured gemstones but there are many more options that are just as striking.
Coloured gemstones are mainly graded on their colour, which is the most important feature when determining their value. This is based on hue, saturation and tone. Hue is the subtle shades of colour that combine to make up the overall colour of the stone and tone is the description of how dark or light the colour appears to be. Saturation refers to how intense or strong the colour of the stone is. As well as colour the clarity and cut are a consideration in the value of the gem and the fewer imperfections there are the higher the value.
How a stone is cut will also help determine its value. As with diamonds the depth, polish and symmetry all play a part in the overall finished look. Coloured stones are often treated to improve their appearance and this is also taken into consideration when appraising a stone.
