Planning a wedding can be stressful, but one of the best parts about getting married is enjoying your honeymoon after! We’ve put together a list of our favourite honeymoon destinations for LGBTQ+ couples, so you can start dreaming about your perfect holiday.
Bora Bora, French Polynesia
The first stop on our list is the beautiful Bora Bora in French Polynesia. It’s one of the more expensive honeymoon destinations but it’s worth it once you step into your gorgeous overwater bungalow and gaze out over the crystal clear waters. Same-sex marriage has been legal in French Polynesia since 2013, and they are incredibly welcoming to LGBTQ+ couples.
Lake Como, Italy
Mamma mia! If you’re considering an Italian getaway, it’s hard to go past Lake Como. Pack your bags, hire a sporty little car, and enjoy a drive through the Lombardy region as you admire some truly awe-inspiring mountains and hills. For the ultimate accommodation, we recommend the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, but there are a wide range of quaint and beautiful properties on offer.
Waiheke Island, New Zealand
Looking for something a little bit closer to home? Then pay a visit down to our cousins in New Zealand. The land of the long white cloud is home to many beautiful sights including Milford Sound, Waitomo glow worm caves, Hokitika Gorge, and Hobbiton (for you Lord of the Rings fans). However, for true seclusion and romance, head to the picturesque vineyards in Waiheke Island and take a romantic walk on the beach.
Riviera Maya, Mexico
Mexico is home to some of the most vibrant parties and events, with many LGBTQ+ couples enjoying the sites of Cancún and Puerto Vallarta. However, we’re particularly partial to the Riviera Maya. Home to some of the countries most beautiful beaches, everyone so incredibly welcoming that you won’t want to leave!
Reykjavik, Iceland
For couples who prefer cooler climes, Reykjavik is the place to be. As the first country in the world with an openly gay head of government, the Icelandic peoples are an incredibly open and welcoming bunch, hosting many queer celebrations throughout the year. Make sure to check out the Northern Lights, striking volcanoes, and dazzling waterfalls while you’re there.
Hawaii, USA
Since passing the Hawaii Marriage Equality Act in 2013, the islands of Hawaii have been a haven for LGBTQ+ honeymooners who are looking for fun and adventure. If relaxing isolation is in order, head to the islands of Maui and Kauai. But if partying is on the agenda, make your way to Honolulu with its vibrant bars and nightlife.
Whitsundays, Australia
Of course, we have plenty of beautiful honeymoon destinations right here in Australia. With our beaches being some of the best in the world, you can’t go wrong with making a trip to the Whitsundays and exploring the Great Barrier Reef. If you’re feeling especially fancy, take a look at Qualia – one of the world’s most luxurious honeymoon destinations!
